Commission

The Rector appoints an Anti-Discrimination Commission, consisting of: Spokesman for Academic Rights and Freedoms as chairman and nine members. At least one of the persons shall be a non-academic staff member. The commission includes a representative of students and doctoral students.

The scope of the commission's activities includes, in particular:

cooperation with the Spokesman;
Expressing opinions in pending disciplinary proceedings concerning violations in the area of equal treatment;
initiating solutions for equal treatment for the entire academic community;
undertaking activities to disseminate knowledge in the area of compliance with the principles of equal treatment, in particular in the form of meetings or training sessions addressed to the academic community. The scope of the training concerns the issues of discrimination, harassment, mobbing in light of current legislation;
Initiation of actions in favor of individuals and groups exposed to or experiencing discrimination;
Preparation of draft procedures and practices on equal treatment and anti-discrimination;
Providing opinions on other procedures and practices within the scope of the Commission's tasks;
Supporting the student and doctoral community and the management and administration of UAM in the implementation of existing anti-discrimination procedures.

Spokesman for Academic Rights and Freedoms

Robert Kmieciak

Robert Kmieciak - Professor of Social Sciences affiliated with the Faculty of Political Science and Journalism at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. Plenipotentiary of the Rector for Equal Treatment from 2016 to 2022. Chairman of the Committee on Anti-Discrimination at UAM - term 2016-2020 and 2020-2024. Chairman of the Team for anti-discrimination strategy and mediation at UAM. Expert cooperating with the Commission on Communication and Social Responsibility of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland (CRASP).

The Spokesman for Academic Rights and Freedoms is appointed and dismissed by the Rector for the term of office, after consultation with the Senate. The Ombudsman reports directly to the Rector. The Ombudsman conducts proceedings independently, with confidentiality, impartiality and neutrality.

The Spokesman's responsibilities include, in particular:

  1. keeping a register of cases and protecting the secrets and personal data covered by the register;
  2. submitting an annual report on its activities to the Senate. The report is the basis for the implementation at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan of programs and activities to counter discriminatory practices at the University;
  3. conducting promotional and educational actions to counter discriminatory practices;
  4. Conducting monitoring and evaluation of anti-discrimination activities;
  5. Promoting among employees of the University and other members of the academic community desirable attitudes and behaviors consistent with the principles of social coexistence;
  6. Disseminating knowledge about discrimination, bullying and sexual harassment at UAM and the application of preventive methods;
  7. Providing substantive assistance to those affected by an incident of discrimination, mobbing or sexual harassment at UAM;
  8. Improving internal procedures in place for the prevention of discrimination, mobbing and sexual harassment on the UAM premises and reporting the need to change their content;
  9. Conducting anonymous surveys among female and male students, doctoral students, and female and male employees regarding feelings of safety and the occurrence of discrimination, mobbing or sexual harassment on the UAM premises, and presenting the conclusions of the survey;
  10. Providing assistance to the participants in the proceedings, with their consent, in communicating with each other;
    preparing proposals and conclusions for the Rector on matters of solving problems arising in connection with the occurrence of a threat or with cases of discrimination, mobbing or harassment.

At the request of the Spokesman, the Rector may appoint consultants or teams of consultants for persons or communities at risk of unequal treatment and discrimination.

The tasks of the consultants include, in particular:

  1. providing substantive assistance to persons affected by an incident of discrimination, bullying or sexual harassment at UAM;
  2. Submitting proposals to improve internal procedures in place to prevent the phenomena of discrimination, mobbing and sexual harassment at UAM;
  3. Participation in mediation proceedings.

Consultants carry out the scope of their tasks as agreed with the Spokesman.
